Editorial Policy

How we maintain independence and earn your trust

Editorial Independence Statement

AI vs Tool is editorially independent. Our reviews, rankings, and recommendations are determined solely by our testing results and editorial judgment. No external party — not advertisers, not AI tool companies, not affiliate partners — has any influence over our editorial decisions.

Specific commitments we make:

  • We never accept payment for rankings or placement. No AI company can pay to appear higher in our comparisons or to receive a "Recommended" badge.
  • We never accept free product access. We pay for every subscription we test (see How We Test for details).
  • We never let advertisers review or approve content. Advertisers and partners do not see our content before publication.
  • Our editorial team is separate from our business operations. The people who write reviews do not know which tools generate the most revenue.

If an AI company has a problem with one of our reviews, they can contact us with factual corrections — but they cannot demand changes. We correct factual errors promptly (see our Correction Policy below), but we never change a review because a company is unhappy with its rating.

How We Handle Affiliate Links

AI vs Tool is a free resource. We fund our work through two revenue sources:

  1. Affiliate commissions: When you click a link on our site and sign up for or purchase an AI tool, we may earn a small commission from that sale — at no extra cost to you.
  2. Advertising: We display non-intrusive advertisements on some pages.

Key points about our affiliate relationships:

  • Commissions never affect rankings. We have reviewed and ranked tools that pay zero commission ahead of tools that offer higher commissions — because the lower-commission tool performed better in testing.
  • We disclose affiliate relationships. Every page containing affiliate links includes a clear disclosure. We follow FTC guidelines for affiliate disclosure.
  • We link to tools we wouldn't recommend. In some comparison articles, we link to all tools mentioned — including the ones we rank lower. This allows readers to explore all options, not just our top pick.
  • Some links earn nothing. Not every tool we review has an affiliate program. We review and link to tools regardless of whether we can earn a commission.

We treat affiliate revenue as a byproduct of doing good work — not the goal. If we help you find the right tool, and you choose to sign up through our link, the commission helps us keep the site running. If you'd prefer not to use our affiliate links, you can always navigate to the tool's website directly.

Correction Policy

We take accuracy seriously. If we publish something wrong, we fix it — fast and transparently.

  • Response time: We aim to correct factual errors within 24 hours of being notified.
  • Transparency: When a substantive correction is made, we add a dated correction note at the bottom of the article explaining what was changed and why.
  • Minor fixes: Typos, formatting issues, and broken links are fixed without a correction note (the substance of the content hasn't changed).
  • How to report errors: Email [email protected] with the page URL, the specific error, and your source (if applicable). We review every correction report.

We value corrections — they make our content better. If you catch an error, please don't hesitate to let us know.

AI Usage Disclosure

Transparency About AI

This is an AI tool review site. We believe being transparent about our own use of AI is not just ethical — it's an E-E-A-T signal that builds trust with our readers. Here's exactly how we use AI in our work.

We use AI tools to assist with our work in the following ways:

  • Research assistance: We use AI to help summarize product documentation, aggregate user reviews, and identify patterns in community feedback. This speeds up our research process but never replaces direct, hands-on testing.
  • Drafting assistance: AI tools may help generate rough drafts or suggest structural improvements for our articles. This helps us write faster and focus our time on testing and analysis rather than first-draft composition.
  • Data analysis: We use AI to help process and visualize the quantitative data we collect during benchmark testing.

What we never do with AI:

  • AI never writes reviews without human oversight. Every article published on AI vs Tool is reviewed, fact-checked, edited, and approved by a human — specifically Alex Chen, our lead reviewer. AI-generated text that hasn't been verified by a human never reaches our readers.
  • AI never determines rankings. Our rankings and recommendations are based on hands-on testing results and human editorial judgment, not AI summarization of other people's reviews.
  • AI never replaces testing. We don't ask an AI "which tool is better" and publish the answer. We test the tools ourselves, document the results, and form our own conclusions.

In short: AI helps us work more efficiently, but human judgment makes every final decision. If you ever have questions about how AI was used in a specific article, email us and we'll explain.

Content Update Policy

AI tools evolve fast — and so does our content. We maintain a structured review and update cycle:

  • Monthly reviews: All high-priority comparison articles and "Best Of" pages are reviewed and updated at least once per month. This includes re-running key benchmarks, checking for pricing changes, and evaluating new features.
  • Breaking updates: When a major AI tool releases a significant update (e.g., a new model, a major feature, or a pricing restructure), we test the changes within 48 hours and update our reviews if necessary.
  • "Last Updated" dates: Every comparison page displays a clearly visible "Last Updated" date. If a page is more than 2 months old, we flag it for priority review.
  • Version history: Major updates to our rankings include a brief note explaining what changed and why.

Content Standards

All content published on AI vs Tool must meet these standards:

  • Original research: Every review is based on our own testing, not regurgitated from other review sites or AI summaries of existing content.
  • Factual accuracy: All claims about tool features, pricing, and performance must be verified at the time of publication.
  • Clear writing: We write for real people making real decisions. No jargon for jargon's sake. No hype. No marketing-speak.
  • Actionable recommendations: Every comparison ends with clear, specific recommendations for different types of users — not vague "it depends" conclusions.
  • Fair representation: We give every tool a fair shake. If a tool has a weakness, we explain it — but we also acknowledge its strengths. No tool is perfect, and no tool is useless.
