About AI vs Tool

Independent AI tool reviews you can actually trust

Who We Are

AI vs Tool is a small, independent team of AI enthusiasts and software engineers who got tired of sifting through biased, sponsored reviews. We built this site because we believe choosing the right AI tool shouldn't require guessing — it should be backed by hands-on testing, transparent methodology, and honest comparisons.

We're not a faceless media company. We're real people who use AI tools every day — for coding, writing, research, and creative work. We founded this site in 2024 to fill a gap we saw in the market: a review site that actually tests tools rather than just comparing spec sheets and pricing pages.

Our Mission

Our mission is simple: help people pick the right AI tools for their needs.

The AI tools landscape is exploding. Every week, a new tool launches claiming to be the best. But which one actually delivers? Which one is worth your money? Which one integrates best with your workflow? We answer these questions through rigorous, standardized testing so you can make informed decisions without spending hours on research yourself.

We believe that good reviews save people time, money, and frustration. That's what we're here to do.

Our Approach

We don't just read about AI tools — we use them. Every tool we review goes through a minimum 2-week hands-on testing period. We run standardized benchmark tasks across categories, test real-world use cases, analyze pricing value, and aggregate community feedback. We also pay for our own subscriptions — we never accept free review copies or sponsored access.

Our testing methodology is transparent and documented in detail on our How We Test page. We update reviews monthly because AI tools evolve fast, and a 3-month-old review is practically useless in this space.

For full details on how we maintain independence, see our Editorial Policy.

Our Values

Independence

We are 100% independently owned and operated. No venture capital, no parent company, no external investors. We answer only to our readers.

Honesty

If a tool is bad, we say so. We don't sugarcoat reviews to protect relationships with AI companies. Our readers trust us, and we protect that trust above everything.

No Pay-to-Rank

We never accept payment for rankings, placements, or favorable reviews. Our comparisons are determined by testing results, not by who pays us the most.

Transparency

We publish our testing methodology openly, disclose how we make money, and explain exactly how each review was conducted. No black boxes, no secrets.

Alex Chen

Founder & Lead Reviewer

Alex is a software engineer who has been building with and testing AI tools since the GPT-3 era. He started using AI APIs in production back in 2021, long before the ChatGPT boom. Since then, he's personally tested over 100 AI tools across every major category — chatbots, coding assistants, image generators, video tools, and more.

Before founding AI vs Tool, Alex spent 8 years as a full-stack engineer at tech startups, where he evaluated and integrated AI tools into real production workflows. He brings an engineer's rigor to reviews: everything gets tested against the same benchmarks, every claim gets verified, and fluff gets called out.

Alex personally writes or reviews every comparison on this site. When you read a review on AI vs Tool, you're reading the work of someone who has spent weeks actually using the tools in question — not someone who skimmed a press release.

Credentials: Former full-stack engineer with 8+ years experience. AI tool user since GPT-3. Tested 100+ AI tools. Python, TypeScript, and cloud infrastructure background.

How We Make Money

AI vs Tool is free for readers. We fund our work through affiliate commissions — when you click a link on our site and sign up for a tool, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We also display non-intrusive advertisements.

Importantly, our revenue sources never influence our rankings or reviews. We have a strict separation between our editorial team and any commercial relationships. We disclose all affiliate relationships clearly, and we never accept payment from tool companies for favorable coverage. For details, read our Editorial Policy.
